night of 2011-01-26

It was dark outside and I was walking the O'Dell's dog (it wasn't their real dog, just some dog), and when I got it back to their house, it saw Roxy's body lying on the ground and she was dirty and dead.  It ran up to her and smeared its face all over her and whined. In the dream I wasn't upset that Roxy was dead, but I knew it was sad.  Then, suddenly, I heard my dad say some phrase.  He was by the front door where we keep the chess set.  (Setting completely changed.)  I wasn't an active character in my dream at this time, I just knew what was going on.  The thing he said didn't really mean anything, but from the way he said it, you could tell that he was thinking that Zippo might have died too.  But it wasn't what would happen if Zippo actually died.  It was the sound that Dad would make if Zoe peed on the carpet.  Unfortunate, but not emotional.

I was moving (like I was for college into the Challenger building).  The destination was some bright new house, and Dani O'Dell was there and she was in charge of the kids during this time.  She pointed out my sweatshirt.  It had a zipper, and the left side of the sweatshirt white, and it was my mom's.  The right side was my dark green army-like sweatshirt.  It was like wearing mismatch socks, except mismatch sides of sweatshirts.  The feeling I had was one of unpreparedness.  I made a mistake, wearing a girl's sweatshirt, and I needed to fix it.  The Mom walked in and tried to give me the other half of her sweatshirt but I wanted the other half of my sweatshirt, and it annoyed me.  But then Mom and I were sitting down at a restaurant and she ordered me a soft drink and we talked and were happy.

New dream:  Dad was driving me home after a day of high school.  But before he got too far away I decided that I did want to run, since I was planning on skipping the run that day.  So I got out of the car and ran back to the field.  But instead of the track and field during the afternoon, it was dark outside but well lit, and there was grass that led off into some trees, and everyone was running off into the trees.  They had just started, and they all decided to take off at different times so they were all spread out in a thick line.  In the back, Andrew Magee and his chums were fooling around and were just about to take off.

The run never actually happened.  But I was walking back to my dad's car to get picked up and I was touching all the mirrors on the cars that I walked passed, but when I grabbed one of them, I pulled it a little too hard and damaged it.  But I pulled it back and flattened it out a little so it was okay.  But it was embarrassing because the dude was in his car while it happened.  Then I looked inside his car and -- thank god, it was Dad.  I hopped in the back seat and closed the door.  Before we drove off, a bunch of the people from cross country ran up to my window, as if to say hi.  Nick Takekoshi was in front, and I gave him a hesitant wave, but he couldn't see me through the window's tint. In fact, nobody could see through the window except me.
